INTRODUCTION ...

  • The Wrath are a collective of beastmasters and monster hunters that care for and respect nature, most of all. They have an alliance with many Ishgardian groups that utilize them to keep certain monster populations under control, be it through slaying them or understanding them enough to keep them happy and not attacking travelers. They are also often hired as escorts through Western Coerthas.

  • With even Black Chocobo being ill fit to traverse the terrible conditions Western Coerthas has been known to wreak and being ill suited for combat, for generations the Wrath have instead created the tradition of raising Upland Mylodons. Unmatched in their strength and perseverance, the Wrath believes them to be representative of their ideals. It isn't unheard of that these Mylodons cause trouble as apex predators, as they are still respected as wild animals, even if companions.

  • Every member of the Wrath has a mask that symbolizes their soul, worn in battle and during celebrations and ceremonies. They can often be seen wearing them when visiting other locations.

  • They often take in Miqo'te ousted from other tribes and/or without a home and are known to make plenty of outside alliances with other tribes, groups or individuals. They're well known in Ishgard and throughout Coerthas as capable monster hunters and beastmasters and often strike up plenty of deals to work for specific groups and individuals.

  • Diplomats can often be found selling their wares, assembling alliances or trading for goods outside of Coerthas.

  • Many members of the Wrath are seen with peculiar ice weaponry that carry the reputation of being troublesome in combat.

TERRITORY ...

  • THE MAIN CAMP : A large camp with a defunct aetheryte. The camp is surrounded by large walls of snow turned compact ice to help guard against harsh winds. All the tribesfolk live here and keep livestock and crops inside and on the outskirts of the camp.

  • THE PROVING GROUNDS : A large, flat piece of ice that is utilized for ceremonial battles and tournaments.

  • THE TUNNELS : A cave system that branches like roots beneath the main camp and spreads outward. Goods susceptible to the cold, crops and animals susceptible to the cold, hot springs for bathing can be found in various sanctums located throughout the tunnel system. The children and sickly of the Wrath are also kept here to thrive away from the harsh conditions of the surface.

  • HUNTER'S RESPITE : An outpost utilized by hunters and harvesters to take a breather/stay the night/wait out a storm when hunting and foraging in deeper parts of Coerthas. Weapons and Mylodon goods are kept here, as well as rations.

  • FROSTBITE SPRINGS : A collective of freshwater springs where the tribe conducts their fishing and collects fresh water.

  • THE MAW : A large, seemingly bottomless pond of fresh water that is believed to be carved by Halone's fist and filled with the tears of those she's slain. The water is considered sacred and is utilized by Mystics in blessings and rituals.

  • LIMBO : A large cliff face with a deep pit where murderers are sentenced to die. The bodies at the bottom seem to be moving...

WRATH LAW

  • Battle is the ultimate revelry; to join the Wrath is to embrace battle.

  • The Wrath is a machine, and all within it a cog. If one does not work, the machine ceases function. Apply yourself somewhere - anywhere.

  • To commit crimes against your fellow Wrath is to bare your teeth at the whole, and to expect the same in return.

  • Disputes are to be handled with combat.

  • Cowardice is the ultimate sin; to cower is to insult Halone and the Wrath.

  • Waste not; every resource is precious. When hunting, utilize everything so that the life of your mark is properly honored.

  • Do not insult the legacy of the Nunhs; breed only within their cycle.

  • Your eyeliner game must be on point.

RUMORS ...

  • Said to be barbaric roughians mainly in Ishgard, but are yet still suggested and recommended when the topic of beasts or monster slaying comes up.

  • Said to have valuable weaponry crafted of enchanted ice; combat with these weapons are advised to be avoided.

  • Said to sell traditional wares of good quality.

  • Said to murder travelers and eat them.

HOOKS ...

  • MONSTER HUNTING : The Wrath is best known for their skill in monster hunting; they're often commissioned for jobs pertaining to this and don't seem to disappoint.

  • COERTHAS GUIDES : They're often hired as guides and guards throughout the icy wastes of Coerthas, especially Western Coerthas. They can get you where you need to go, for the right price.

  • UNORTHODOX MEDICINE : The Wrath have crafted some of their own means of mending mind, body and soul - maybe they can cure what ails you.

  • MERCHANTS : They sell and trade traditional wares often in Coerthas and other areas, requiring goods and services that they cannot ordinarily achieve back in Coerthas.

  • MYLODON PROBLEMS : Their mounts are still wild apex predators and have been known to hunt down smaller creatures, including Chocobo. Whether or not they'll reimburse you is another story, however.

CASTES

The Wrath boasts a collective of individuals of differing talents, all coalescing into a neatly formulated caste system to ensure that the tribe runs smoothly. Some may be part of only one caste - others may be part of multiple.

WARRIOR

The Warriors are the defenders and hunters of the tribe, handling disputes, escorts, battles, patrols and hunts. When there is a monster to be slain, it will be the Warriors who are sent to deal with it. To become a Warrior is to complete the most rigorous training to prove one is capable of putting the lives of their fellow tribesmates in their hands.

MYSTIC

The Mystics are a group of spiritual mages and shamans. Operating under one High Priestess who communes with Halone and oversees many of the rites the Wrath participates in, the Mystics primarily oversee the magic and spirituality of the tribe, handling things such as enchantments, alchemy, and ceremonies of all kinds. They are considered a link to spirits are considered to be able to speak through them, especially in matters pertaining to deceased tribemates.

  • Lead by one High Priestess who is thought to be a link to Halone herself and speaks for her in ceremonies

  • Bright blue face paint

  • Covers a wide array of mages and magical capabilities, most common being ice magic

  • Most versatile group and often the most highly populated

LIFEWEAVER

LIFEWEAVERS
Lifeweavers are the mercy and respite afforded to the winter's wrath from the toiling environment of which they live. They are skilled healers and herbalists who are keen to resolve every ailment to ensure the health of the tribe thrives and prospers, whether it be of man or beast. The Lifeweavers are entrusted with matters seeing to the health of the tribe, caring for livestock or other beasts and making or providing medicines. Lifeweavers protect the Persevering Flame, ensuring it always stays lit. Lifeweavers will often wear white body paint.

  • Not often allowed to leave camp, especially unattended

  • Very often kept underground caring for the sick

  • Long apprenticeships

HARVESTER

The Harvesters are the designated environmental experts of the tribe who devote their study to promoting the tribe's ability to thrive in the harsh environment, as well as ensuring that the ecosystem is balanced with their presence within it. They handle predicting weather, farming, harvesting herbs and wood outside of the camp and ensuring that the ecosystem is thriving. Harvesters will often wear many trinkets in their hair, be it beads, feathers or bones.

  • Always assigned a 'guard', being a Warrior who is to accompany them every time they leave camp

  • Works in a system of their own, where one 'head harvester' will assign tasks to others and recordkeep everyone's specific work

  • Monthly meetings to report abundance in specific areas and others that lack

  • Wears hair trinkets, blessed by mystics

CREATOR

The Creators are the ones who utilize craftsmanship and artistry. They are the weaponsmiths, armorers, jewelers and carpenters as well as those who mine for and utilize precious ore. They are very well versed in what resources the earth has to offer them in Coerthas and will always see to it that the Wrath has proper armor, weaponry and functioning homes.

  • Reports to Harvesters often with what ore is needed

  • Works closesly with mystics for enchantments, though many enchant their own work

  • Much of their armor is made to be sold in outside sales and trades

  • Wears body jewelry crafted with true ice as stones

  • Some missing fingers due to the unstable nature of true ice

PHYSICALITY

EYES   : Often in shades of blue, gold or brown.FUR   : Very often leopard-printed on either the ears or tail, or both. Typically monochrome shades from white to black, or pale colors.EARS AND TAILS   : The fur inside of their ears grows far more densely and "fluffier" to keep snow and wind out; they are often tipped with thin, long fur, much like a lynx. Their tails are double-coated and thick to keep out the cold.STATURE   : Those born into the Wrath typically carry one distinct trait: they are far taller and larger than your average Miqo'te, with a common height being 5'10" and sometimes above. It is required to be in shape to survive here, so many physiques are quite strong and disciplined.ODDITIES   : Some Wrathborn have oddities, such as fur on their bodies, digitigrade feet, off-color in the sclera, etc. Some think it a blessing to help last the cold, but it's likely due to aether tampering.

  • Tribespeople, when inducted, are required to file their teeth and nails to points. It is a gesture thought to please Halone by signifying that they will continue to fight even if there is no weapon in reach, honing their very bodies into weapons themselves.

  • Sharpened teeth are, of course, prone to being more brittle and can break as the years go on. Any broken teeth are promptly dealt with and replaced with platinum caps.

  • The Wrath see scars as the greatest honor to receive from battle; to them, they are stories written upon their very flesh, a testament to their might and triumphs overcome. Due to this, many in the Wrath are covered in scars.

  • Leaders of the tribe will cut their tails short to signify their willingness to sacrifice themselves for the good of the tribe. Only leaders will have short tails typically, though it's not unheard of that others will lose their tails in accidents.

  • Selective breeding has ensured the Miqo'te born into the tribe to be quite large and tall, though not all will be. Heights of all kinds are present, nor will a Nunh refuse to breed with those who do not have these traits.

  • Those born into the Wrath typically have much higher natural body temperatures. It's considered to be a blessing from Halone to help them survive the cold, though it is far more likely to be their heavy use of warming tinctures that has influenced the aether of children when in the womb.

  • It isn't unheard of that some members will be missing fingers, toes or limbs, typically from frostbite or from battle.

MISC.

ON RELIGION ...

  • The Wrath are a tribe of jovial warriors and hunters that revel in battle, believing it to be a means to bring them closer to Halone.

  • Despite their inclinations to battle, the Wrath care deeply for nature and it's creatures and respect it to the utmost. The cycle of life is extremely important, and they nurture it as much as they can, believing heavily in receiving what they give in life.

  • The Persevering Flame is thought to be a direct pathway to the afterlife.

  • It is believed that Halone will bless every Wrathlet upon induction, providing them with a 'blessing' - an accentuated ability that is to help them serve the tribe and Herself.

  • As of recent, Halone has been silent, and thus it has inspired a belief that the end of days will soon come.

ON HUNTING ...

  • Harvesters choose which game for Warriors to hunt specifically based on the wellness and number in population of that game as not to endanger their numbers and leave themselves without food.

  • Hunting parties are sent twice each sennight to hunt designated land game, which is typically some manner of harmful beast.

  • Some hunters specialize in ice fishing and will coordinate with the Harvesters to go out when the weather is clear to fish and forage.

  • Mylodons are typically utilized for larger scale hunts as herding animals to keep their prey in a designated location, but are far more helpful in hunting large, dangerous beasts.

  • Masks are always worn when hunting.

ON CELEBRATIONS, CUSTOMS & RITUALS ...

  • Each new tribesman, after swearing themselves to the Wrath, will then create a mask with the help of the Mystics. This mask will symbolize their very soul and be worn during tribe events and when traveling, or whenever they want to, really.

  • Mylodons are given as pups, where a whistle with a specific frequency will be be crafted and given. Mylodons are still treated as wild animals, even if imprinted and bonded, and are thus allowed free reign throughout Coerthas when not being utilized or cared for. Throughout raising this Mylodon, they will learn this whistle's frequency and respond to it, meaning that one's Mylodon whistle must never be lost or broken, else they lose the ability to call their companion.

  • The "Persevering Flame" is a torch that has been burning since the tribe's creation. It is considered a display of prowess to keep it burning eternally, as if to fight against Halone's eternal winters. This flame is overseen by Lifeweavers and is used by Mystics to commune with the dead, as this flame has seen every death within the tribe.

  • Death is not feared in the Wrath, but is rather seen as the next step in the cycle. Deaths are celebrated just as births are - with much feasting, fighting and celebrating The departed are burned in the Persevering Flame, where it is believed their spirits will safely depart to the lifestream, and the departed's masks are put upon a great totem, where this symbol of their soul will serve as proof that they once lived.

  • If the masks and body of the departed cannot be retrieved, their spirits do not rest, and it is said that they become ashkin.

  • Mylodons are also given the same treatment as the tribespeople who pass. One of their tusks are kept, which the owner will fashion and utilize into a war horn. Those who lose their Mylodons have the choice to bond with another pup, but many choose against it.

  • The Wrath revel in battle and believe strength of the mind and body is paramount; only those willing to fight to the very death are permitted into it's ranks, as death is seen as something not to fear. their bodies are honed into weapons themselves, hence the claws and the sharpened teeth. Several tournaments are held annually, as well as many rituals involving battle to please the powers that be.

ON BREEDING ...

  • Unlike most Seeker tribes, the Winter's Wrath can have up to two Nunhs; only on rare occasions will they have one, such as seasons where mortality rates are high and recruitment rates are low.

  • A tournament is held once every four years in which prospective challengers will compete for the right to challenge one of the Nunhs, one tournament held per two years, staggering between each current Nunh. Competitors will all have three suns to hunt a mark that showcases their wit and prowess, and whoever is deemed the most skillful will be allowed to fight the Nunh. This is a ceremonial and communal event for all of the Wrath, allowing only the strongest to fight for the privilege of providing the next legacy.

  • Nunhs can only serve up to two cycles before they step down, and the two 'finalists' of the competition face off with each other.

  • Those to bear cubs alternate per tournament on a volunteer basis. Those who do not wish to breed never have to. Some may simply help care for and raise children, and some may not be involved in the process at all.

  • When a Nunh emerges victorious, there will be a celebration that involves much feasting and merriment to celebrate the next legacy. Mystics will bless the Nunh and he will be given a ceremonial necklace which he is to wear he either cycles out or is beaten.

  • The tournament and breeding season are both held on a schedule so as to allow any carrying parents and newborns to avoid the harshest winter months. Nunhs are not permitted to breed outside of the breeding season.

  • The Wrath attempts to limit births to four cubs per cycle. Sometimes it is less, depending on circumstances, and sometimes it is more, such as cases of twins and the like.

  • Any within the Wrath are permitted to have relations with whosoever they choose, but it is forbidden to bear a child with anyone outside of the current Nunh. This is punishable by banishment.

  • Nine nights after children are birthed, the Nunh will name them and Mystics will sprinkle them with water gathered from the Maw to bless them.

  • Children are kept underground completely until they are old enough to walk, in which they will be allowed limited time on the surface, but still kept beneath ground until they are ten summers, where their training for their prospective caste will begin.

NOTABLE WRATH HISTORY

PREVIOUSLY ...

Originally an Azyema worshipping tribe in Thanalan many years ago. (~10 years ago)

  • Splintered from a deteriorating tribe in a disagreement. Moved to Coerthas due to a vision one of the huntresses had, where unyielding success and strength lie through being able to prove their worth through battle of both body and clime in blizzard wastelands.

  • Adopted worship to Halone, as it is believed that it is she who sent that offering.

  • Survival was very difficult at first, but they eventually adapted.

  • Discovered the underground tunnels a couple of years after taking over the old settlement. Decided to keep the most 'vulnerable' underground.

Culture began to form rather quickly.

  • Persevering flame is started after the first death, and so began the tradition of burning their dead. The flame has been lit ever since. They have collected many masks for the totem.

  • Adopted the tradition of riding Mylodons some ~5 years after discovering chocobo were ill fit.

  • Tribe grows exponentially through births, through taking in other miqo'te, through alliances.

Tribe experiences some ups and downs, but little issues.

  • A few famines due to particularly harsh winters.

  • Some issues with bandits, perhaps, but less so the more notorious the tribe became.

  • Sicknesses somewhat common, but quickly isolated. Often culled, if need be.

The Final Days happens. (~4-5 years ago)

  • Strange beasts begin to attack the village.

  • Many wrathlets change or die trying to defend.

  • Some hide underground, leading to some changing there due to despair and killing those who can't defend themselves.

  • This is the greatest amount of casualties the Wrath has ever seen, whittling down around ~50 wrathlets to about ~30.

  • It takes them a good few years to fully recover from all the loss and destruction.

A neighboring tribe hailing from Dravania begins to steal their goods to survive. (~1-2 years ago)

  • This goes on for about three months before one of the miqo'te are caught.

  • The remaining tribe is inducted not long after as a result.

  • Yes, lots of them are having issues acclimating.

  • The High Priestess and others able to commune with Halone suddenly gather no response.

  • Unrest and unease scatter along the tribe, but morale is still high.

The rumors that follow her name are mercurial at best, some mentioning her strong leadership and diplomatic skills whilst other call her a zealous lunatic. Regardless of which impression one might believe, a unanimous agreement is that she loves her people and that she would do whatever it takes to help them thrive.

A cryptical woman known to be the voice of Halone, once a sociable and motherly figure to many of her tribesmate, now the High-priestess seems like a frozen husk of the woman she once was after the Final Days, near-obsessed with Halone and withering as the days pass. And yet her talents in the arcane remain as strong as ever, she walks now attached to a scythe that carries a jewel of True Ice brimming with aether — curiously enough, it is not uncommon to see her speaking to it from time to time. . .

The laid back and light-hearted Nunh, Sevran is nowadays known to be an incredibly compassionate man who would rather ensure the safety and survival of any who would call the Wrath their home. Though he seems to be somewhat lazy, he is often the first to check on and look after his fellow tribesmate. Donning the visage of the fox, his benevolence and good will is not to be mistaken with weakness, for he harbors equal intensity in combat — sporting an unnatural speed that forms a lethal technique when combined with his twin axes and earning him the name of Foxtrot.

Once a tribal hhetsarro turned outlaw that fled overseas, X'heten is a man well-known for his mixture of magic and physical prowess in battle as well as his tendency to chase wherever pretty coin or people might glisten. Originally attempting to steal from Wrath diplomats and bested in battle, Heten offered up himself to their cause out of respect - and, let's be real, a need to have stable living conditions. What once was an aloof member at best has become one of the most devoted members of the tribe, adopting a fierce love of his people and their ideals. When there is trouble outside the tribe, he is usually the first to volunteer to handle it, harboring little patience for those who threaten the sanctity of his home. Despite his insufferable silver tongue, he's well-beloved by those of the Wrath.

X'juhnbei, formerly known as an infamous, clanwide problem child, is a Lifeweaver specializing in light, frost, and life aspected magic. Her upbringing, or rather lack thereof, led to her being rather eccentric in nature- or perhaps too in-touch with her untamed roots. This made her an objector to certain clan traditions at times, causing her to propose jarring or taboo solutions to problems that would otherwise be refused, if it weren't for her ingenuity. A cunning and bright, albeit strange individual.

With the visage of a Mylodon, X’ashrei is equally just as much of a proud and unpredictable woman - a Warrior dedicated to her duties who oft prefers hunting the most perilous of beasts. Determined to become the next Chieftess, she is commonly plagued by self-doubt when questioning their oldest customs and their ways, a taboo by definition. Resilient to a fault, she would rather shoulder such burdens rather than rely on - and endanger - someone.

A belligerent Warrior with seemingly a lot to prove. Born as a runt, the need to make his mark amongst his peers was instilled in him at a young age, training tooth and nail to earn the respect of those who doubted him. Admiring his late father, Hiba is an aspiring Nunh who seeks to serve and better his tribe in whatever ways he can; his heart is in the right place, but his bad attitude and short temper easily have him straying off the golden path. Even if rough around the edges, Hiba cares deeply for his tribe and would put his life on the line for them without hesitation.

A talented mage and healer who channels the very energy of the stars and fate itself. X'vilha is gentle soul whose made the controversial choice to avoid combat unless absolutely necessary. Perhaps it is his healing and magic prowess that have others turn a blind eye to his heresy, or perhaps it is the fact that he is X'mhiti's only son . . . in any case, he seems to be widely respected, if not at least tolerated for his gregarious and amicable nature. After the Final Days, however, many have noted shifts in the man's demeanor: now covered from head to toe in deliberate runic scarification and far more distant than he previously was. The trauma must really be getting to him.

A Dravania born miqo’te and hailing from a much peaceful nomadic tribe, Senza was ill-fit for such a life style and could scarcely resist the fervent call of what Western Coerthas promised instead. The ensured thrill and glory found once inducted were only a few of the boons found by Senza in the Winter’s Wrath, who not only strives to become the next Nunh but is deeply devoted to his new family and home. A hot-headed warrior and lifeweaver who uses his own fervor in combat for mending and supporting his tribesmate and allies.

A hingan miqo'te who is fairly new to the ranks of the Wrath. X'noctya sought refuge amongst the Wrath for reasons very scarcely elaborated, offering in turn his artistic precision; he takes care of much of the body modifications that the Wrath so heavily lean into, such as tattoos and teeth filings. When he isn't dealing with petty cosmetics, the man's precise eye for detail is often relied on when it comes to matters of more bloody health concerns, like surgery. How he has all of this imperative training and info to be so good at it is still left to guess, for he opts to speak as little about it as possible. He's rather aloof and distant, not often spotted at gatherings and judged for it, but when so many owe him their lives, how can they truly complain?

A small Harvester by Wrath’s standards, Eir has taken their ways quite literally — with survival being the only concept of utmost importance in her mind. It dictates her relationships, her actions down to who and how she interacts with her surroundings and others. Despite her underlying potential for Magicks, her interests lay upon the land instead — the cradle of a rule that guides them still. Nature is honest and simple in ways that X’eirlyn not only is fascinated by, but adheres to like the only true order of her own people.

X'nerai is perhaps one of Halone's most devoted and outwardly enthusiastic worshippers, at least within the Wrath. As a Priestess of Halone, the woman is often the first to volunteer when it comes to battle of any origin. She can often be found preaching Halone's gospel and believes herself to be an extension of Halone's wrath sent to service the star. She's a jovial woman otherwise who takes great pride in sharing battle wit and strategy, having the utmost respect for those who can put up their own in battle against her. She only ever wears armor, it seems.

X'jhinara is a reserved creator once belonging to a tribe of bandits and hunters in Dravania. Tyrannical circumstances within her tribe caused a great divide, leaving Jhin with the weight of an oath to her mother to protect this splinter of her people from any further harm. Forced to flee down into Coerthas, her people were ill-suit for survival and thus, began to steal from the Wrath just to survive. When found out, she was faced with a hefty ultimatum: join the Wrath, or be slaughtered. Now midst the ranks of a people she despises, the woman makes do so that what was once her tribe are cared for and fed, but she carries a bad reputation as someone consistently rude and standoffish to those who are not her people. Despite this, her blacksmith work is of quality make, determined to keep this facet of herself.

Born blind within a tribe of Meracydian Miqo'te and Seekers, the man was condemned to a life of strict protection and shelter, forbidden to leave his home and forced to stick to a life of child rearing and housework. His wanderlust and desire to prove his capability even whilst blind lead him to flee his people unbeknownst to them, seeking out the diplomats he had seen prior, begging they take him and teach him. How could they say no? Blossoming his magic capabilities and understanding of the wilds under tutelage, Ahrin currently serves the Wrath with the pride of knowing he is capable of everything his mother insisted he wasn't - he even has his own method of seeing now, to boot!
